Getting 1,000 views on a Medium story is a dream for most writers. Most struggle to get past 100 views. 100 views is a stretch. Some are stuck at 44 views for unknown reasons.

While trying to please the algorithm and boost my story visibility, I experimented with a few things and finally figured out what worked.

Write attention-grabbing headlines

It’s either you grab your audience’s attention or you die trying. If your title is not attractive enough, your article dies the moment you press publish.

Nobody reads titles such as, “How to be a better writer,” or “How to make $500 onine doing nothing.” Titles like that are repelling, and are obviously time wasters.

Try titles like, “I did [x] and [X] happened.” Or, “I Wrote a $500 Article in 10 Minutes.” These will grab attention. People are always curious, and you can use this curiosity as your selling point.

Write three potential titles, and choose which you think is the best while asking yourself if you’ll click on that title if you didn’t write it.

Timing is everything
